Announcing... a New Grappling and FIT Program at Sunkist Kids Wrestling Academy


We are excited to announce Sunkist Kids Wrestling is offering 2 new programs for men and women 18 and older.   The 2 programs will feature Dan “The Beast” Severn, UFC Hall of Famer. 

Dan was also a former Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club and ASU Wrestling Team athlete and coach.  If you look at the Hall of Fame Wall as you walk in the wrestling room you will see a number of Severn brothers who were Division I All-American’s for ASU.  Dan, Dave, Mike and Rod Severn all graduated and competed for Arizona State University.

We hope that you will consider participating in one of the programs.  You can join the 30 min Co-ed FIT class on Tuesday and Thursday nights.  This is a great opportunity for you to work on getting FIT, again.  Or you can join Co-ed 1 hour and 30 min Grappling class on Tuesday and Thursday nights.  The Grappling class will include:  the rules, exercise, stretching, core movement grappling/wrestling technique and live action.

FYI, Dan Severn will be around the wrestling room next week promoting the program. Next time you come in, please introduce yourself to Dan when you see him.  We look forward to having Dan back home with the Sunkist Kids and the development of these 2 new programs.

2013 Sunkist Kids Wrestling Academy - New Season Starts!!

ACADEMY ATHLETES AND PARENTS,
JUST A FRIENDLY REMINDER...  We started the Academy last week on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the RWC. We have had 83 kids register so far. And more wrestlers are signing up this week.  The Academy's Head Coach is Melvin Douglas, World Champion and 2X Olympian.  The Academy's Assistant Coaches are Andre Bartlett, Brian Brady, Jeff LaMotte, Jose Fernandez, Ted Rico and Tim Gressley. 
FYI, the Academy information is posted online now.   Also, we are happy to announce that the monthly tuition is the same as last year.

RESERVE YOUR SPOT FOR THE SUNKIST KIDS SUMMER WRESTLING CAMP, TODAY..

This summer the Sunkist Kids Wrestling Academy is hosting camps for K-8th graders. Our commuter camps are 5 days long with 2 sessions per day (9am-4pm). FYI, we are keeping the cost of camp very affordable at $100/5-day camp (Monday-Friday). At the end of each week of camp, we will be hosting tournaments on Saturday. The tournaments will also be open to the general public. For those of you travelling from outside the Phoenix area, we can assist with finding hotels near the Riches Wrestling Complex-ASU main campus in Tempe at reasonable rates through the relationships we have established with the hotels.
 
Summer Academy - $125 for 6 weeks of training:
June 3-July 12
 
Summer Camps - $100 per 5 day camp:
June 3-7
June 9-13
June 24-28
July 8-12
July 15-19
 
 
Our goal is to reach out to wrestlers throughout the State of Arizona in order to offer them a chance to continue developing their wrestling skills and get some much needed mat time during the summer months. During the camp, we will be covering: Stance, Motion, Set-ups, Tie-ups, Penetration drills, Level changes, Takedowns, Wrestling on top, Wrestling from the bottom, Breakdowns, Riding, Pinning Combinations, Mat strategy, Conditioning and Live wrestling. You DO NOT have to have a USA Wrestling Card to participate in our summer camps.
 
Attached is the summer wrestling camp flyer for your review. If you are a coach, please distribute this to the kids in your program when you have a chance. Also, we have the summer Academy from June 3 - July 12, 2013 available for those of you training for Regional and Naitonal Tournaments. 2013 Arizona USA Wrestling Folkstyle State Championships - Information

Attention Athletes, Coaches and Parents:
The Sunkist Kids Wrestling Academy is hosting the 2013 Arizona USA Wrestling Folkstyle State Championships on Saturday, February 16th at Casa Grande High School. Please note - this year we are implementing a Middleschool division for the State Tournament to included the 8th grade first year Cadets.
Please read the previous posting before registering. $20 PRE-REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN for all 2013 USA Wrestling Card holder's!

If you are not a member of USA Wrestling the cost is $25/athlete and you must register on-site. You do not have to purchase a card to participate in this event.  Custom 5” Medals for 1st-6th Place.
4 Outstanding Wrestlers, one per division.
3 team trophies (1st, 2nd and 3rd)
USA Wrestling point system for team scoring; Each club/team picks 20 point scorers
from their team before the tournament starts. The point scorers can be picked from all 4
of the age divisions. Points are awarded based on each wrestlers place in the
tournament: 1st place - 6 team points, 2nd 5pts, 3rd 4pts, 4th 3pts, 5th 2 pts, 6th 1pt.

TRIPLE CROWN TRIPLE CROWN:
 We are very excited to announce that this event will be the first leg of the AWARD: AZ-USA Triple Crown Award. Wrestlers winning all three AZ-USA State Championships (Folkstyle, Freestyle, Greco-Roman) will receive an AZ
Triple Crown award. Excludes Bantam division wrestlers (pre Greco).
